Sacramento, Calif., baritone David Newman has become something of a national sensation. It could be his clear, round tones throughout his range. It could be his elegant singing in German. Newman also shows his breadth of musical understanding with a repertoire ranging from Lully to Vaughan Williams.
American baritone David Allen Newman is highly regarded for his work in opera, oratorio and chamber music throughout the United States and Canada. Noted for the clarity and warmth of his voice and his expressive musicality, he appears regularly with North America's leading early music ensembles. Recent performances include Messiah with Tafelmusik and The Portland Baroque Orchestra, Magnificat with American Bach Soloists, Lully's Acis et Galatée with The Violins of Lafayette, and a national tour of St. Matthew Passion with the combined forces of Santa Fe Pro Musica and The Smithsonian Chamber Players. Other appearances have included Four Saints in Three Acts for The Mark Morris Dance Group, Schumann's Transfiguration of Faust with New Jersey's Masterworks Chorale, Arvo Pärt's Passio with Magnificat, and Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem with Philadelphia's Singing City. He appears regularly as a guest artist with The Four Nations Ensemble, including performances in Lincoln Center and Merkin Hall, and has also performed with The Opera Company of Philadelphia,The Metropolitan Opera Guild, Opera Birmingham, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and The Jacksonville Symphony. David lives in Northern California with his wife Kira, and teaches voice at UC Davis.
