Editor's review

Believe it: these Australian tunes are beyond jaunty. David South and his Scottish Dance Band have become bona fide stars of the decidedly niche Australian Celtic dance scene, and with their crisplyproduced new material, they'll likely stay there. Lilting accordion and piano are carried along by Jonathan Jones's stellar drums.

-------------------------------------------------------

David South has established himself as one of the leading Celtic artists of Australia. As one of the few Scottish Country Dance accordionists based in Australia, he has travelled to many parts of the country with his music. As a duo with Duncan Smith, their combination of accordion and piano produces the big sound sought after by dancers in this country.

Duncan's experience in accompanying a wide variety of solo instruments both in Australia and his native Boston, has established him as a firm favourite with the Scottish Country Dancing community. Duncan's talents, however, also take him off the stage as he is an experienced teacher of dancing.

For the recording of "Kardinia Capers" (from which two of these tracks are taken), David and Duncan used the technology of a modern sound studio and multi-tracked extra instruments. Also, they were joined by drummer and percussionist Jonathan Jones, who has established himself as a leading session musician and is a familiar figure on tours with Scottish-born Australian singer-songwriter Eric Bogle.

In September 2005, David South and his Scottish Dance Band released a "live" album.  This fulfilled an ambition of David's to record a full 6-piece Scottish Dance Band and we believe this is the first live Scottish Dance album to come from Australia.  Along with David on lead accordion, the band includes Matthew Robertson (fiddle), Calum Marquis (2nd accordion), Duncan Smith (piano), Athalie Brooks (bass) and Hugh Rabinovici (drums) (purchase information appears above).  We hope you enjoy these snippets from one of the leading celtic bands of Australia.
