From the heart of the West Highlands, Derek MacLennan brings you a view from the croft. Afro-Beat inspired funky grooves and some bluesy electric guitar with a celtic perspective all provide the backdrop to his quite individual vocal style.
Derek Maclennan is time served both as an electric guitarist and an accoustic accompanist in more traditionally based Scottish music sessions. Amongst other musical diversions he also claims credit as Low Singer, Riffmaster, Producer, Writer and novice Djembe player.
His latest CD, 10 out Illusion, is the start of a fresh phase in his musical journey inviting the listener, into a brave new Gaelic world, worn to the core, but still hanging in there and happy enough to shake hands with all who give a hoot. You will occasionally hear this stuff straining on its leash to break out live with a 10-piece band. And if the time is right, who knows?
If you believe culture is a crucial element of the funky revolution, listen on. We hope there is something here for you.
