Editor's review

Dexter Romweber has lived the blues. As the leader of the influential psychobilly outfit Flat Duo Jets, Romweber paved the way for Reverend Horton Heat, the White Stripes, and many other blues revivalists. Now he's back with a sweat-stained album of his own, filled with crashing drums and his signature whiskey-soaked vocals.

Biography

"Dexter Romweber was and is a huge influence on my music. I owned all of his records as a teenager, and was thrilled at the fact that we were able to play together recently on tour. His attitude towards music is remarkable. And his songwriting, along with his love of classic American music from the south, be it rockabilly, country or R&B, is one of the best kept secrets of the rock n’ roll underground."
Jack White (White Stripes)

"What’s that lunatic up to these days?"
Mike Mills (R.E.M.)

"I was in Dexterville for two weeks with no bus ticket out - and lived to tell about it!!!!!"
Rick Miller, Southern Culture on the Skids frontman, producer of Blues That Defy My Soul

"Dexter Romweber is the real thing, there's absolutely nothing phony about him."
Daddy O Grande (Los Straitjackets)

In Dexter’s words: "The Flat-Duo Jets were born in a small garage on Pine Street in Carrboro, NC back in 1984. I’d played in a few other bands before that, most notably Crash Landon and The Kamikazes, but the Duo Jets was my first touring and recording band.
Although we had a small cassette released in ’84 it would be five more years before we had a real label. 1990 saw Flat Duo Jets released on Doggone Records, which was owned by then R.E.M. manager Jefferson Holt, and we appeared in the 1986 movie Athens, G.A. Inside Out.
We generally like or play early rock and roll – Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and the Coasters. By 1988 we’d toured all over and by 1990 we were doing nationwide tours with The Cramps and appearing on David Letterman.
The early '90s saw plenty of touring and recording, despite setbacks we continued to release loads of albums. My favorites are Wild Blue Yonder, Go Go Harlem Baby, Folk Songs and Safari.
We finally got a much bigger record deal in '98, but by that time the road, personal problems and money troubles had taken their toll and me and my drummer, Crow, parted ways. I slipped into relative obscurity but got back playing again with different musicians, playing around GA, NC, NYC and a US tour. In 2001, I released Chased By Martians on Manifesto Records.

Yep Roc had wanted to put something out for a while and in the winter of 2004 it all fell into place. To sum it up, it's been travel, music, personal comedies, ups, downs and some hell of a lot of music.
