Over the past ten years, Dezeray’s Hammer has managed to survive the rock and rollercoaster that is the music industry. The Spartanburg, SC-based band has seen more than their fair share of good and bad during their journey of five albums and countless tour dates. But with a new outlook, a reinvented sound, and an expanded lineup, Dezeray’s Hammer is moving onward and upward with the release of The Past That Decorates Me (Rock Ridge Music).
The members of Dezeray’s Hammer, Aaron Whisnant (guitars, vocals), Kenny Hogan (drums, percussion), Arthur Brooks (guitars, background vocals), and Michael Williams (bass), worked many late nights in their dark, cramped, self-built recording studio to craft the 14 energetic tracks on The Past That Decorates Me. "Having the equipment at your disposal allows the creative process to gel through trial and error," says Hogan. The album showcases the band’s love of pop melodies and intense rhythms with a funky rock edge.
The songs on The Past That Decorates Me, Dezeray’s Hammer’s first record for Rock Ridge Music and sixth overall, range from the seductive “Me I’m Not,” to the funky “Say I,” to the driving “Godmother,” to the upbeat sing-along “People Say.” Other tracks on the album include “Holding On Again,” “Is It Over,” and “Something About The Way.”
“King’s Highway,” the catchy first single from The Past That Decorates Me, will be released to radio in early summer 2005, and the album will be available in stores on Tuesday, July 12. Dezeray’s Hammer plans to tour extensively following the release of the record; visit www.dezerayshammer.com for updates.
"Touring and rejection can either tear you apart or make you stronger," Hogan says. "Fortunately for us, we've perservered and continued to make music together."
