DJ Babu

Babu's influence in hip-hop started in the 1990s, as he played an essential role in the evolution of the DJ with the Los Angeles collective, The World Famous Beat Junkies. Taking his talents to a higher level, in 1997, Babu stormed the battle scene and was the first DJ to win all 3 categories (Scratching, Beat Juggling, and Teams) at the International Turntablist Federation. While continuing to be a dominating force in the genre, Babu released a number of ground breaking mixtape albums combining intricate mixing and turntablism. Of these, the most notable included Comprehension, Duck Season Vol.1 & 2, and his 1999 Collaboration effort Sound Bombing 2 (Rawkus Records) with fellow Beat Junkie, DJ J Rocc.

As an official member of the West Coast group Dilated Peoples, Babu, not only blessing the group with ill scratches and live performances, he decided to take his skills to the production board as well. Babu produced such Dilated Peoples' hits as Pay Attention and The Eyes Have It. In 2005, Babu teamed up w/ fellow LA Heavyweight MC Defari and formed the Producer / MC group, The Likwit Junkies. Their formula was simple and straight forward hip-hop, reminiscent of greats duos like Gangstarr, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Eric B. and Rakim, and Kool G Rap and Dj Polo.

One of the most documented DJs in the world, Babu continues to appear in both national and international media outlets, including live television showcases on MTV's Direct Effect and BET Live. Babu has also gained accolades and feature stories in highly-circulated music publications such as VIBE, Source, Scratch, XXL, and Rolling Stone. Now, well respected for his beat making skills, Babu has come to the table with his long awaited instrumental debut, The Beat Tape Vol. 1.
