If you thought the word "electronica" was dead, look no further than artists like BT, iio, Paul Van Dyk and this here DJ Everyday. For some reason, the word seems especially applicable to high-energy dance genres like trance and breaks, and Playloop Records' DJ Everyday from West Virginia uses it to describe his style. A cross between the desert breaks of John Kelley and the adrenaline-laced beats of Crystal Method, Everyday's sound is still loyal to dance music's original values.
Dance music is a global phenomenon. There are fans in the biggest cities and the smallest of villages around the world. Most people in the United States associate dance music with places like New York, Chicago and Detroit. However, true fans know that you’ll find dance music under every nook and cranny in the U.S. if you look for it. Look no further than the talents of West Virginia's DJ Everyday as proof positive that dance music has a pumping heart beat across this great big land.
Signed to Philadelphia's Playloop Records, DJ Everyday was first introduced to dance music during the 1990's electronica explosion. A drummer by trade, Everyday heard his first electronic track in 1995 and began DJing party's in 1997 and producing tracks in 1999.
While attending college, DJ Everyday met two friends that would prove to be hugely influential in shaping his career – DJ/producer/Playloop Records CEO Justin Paul and DJ/producer Kezner. It was at Justin Paul's Playloop parties in West Virginia where DJ Everyday honed his skills behind the decks. He would go on host numerous residencies and guest DJ spots throughout the Northeast before signing with Justin Paul's Playloop Records in 2006. In addition to several planned releases on the label scheduled for 2007, DJ Everyday also teamed with his producer friend Kezner to collaborate on a dance project named Locality. This first product of this collaboration, "One Foot On The Moon," was released digitally on Playloop Records.
DJ Everyday recently moved to Philadelphia to be closer to the Playloop Records crew and an artistically vibrant music scene. With top DJs like King Britt, Josh Wink and Nigel Richards and thriving labels like Ovum and Playloop Records, the city is back on the dance music map. Stay tuned for more from DJ Everyday!
