There are quite a few techno producers out there who've at one time or another laid claim to the genre's 20-plus year history, and you'll find most of them still saying it loud in Detroit. German producer/label honcho DJ Hell, on the other hand, never claimed to be any sort of godfather, though he is deservedly treated that way. Add to his always expanding resume the fact he pretty much founded the nu-electro movement with his sexed-up techno-meets-electro label International DeeJay Gigolo (in his typical behind-the-scenes style), and you've got yourself one impressive beatfreak.
Who can believe the International DJ Gigolos are already on their ninth compilation? This time HELL has once again dug out a massive selection of top tunes for the only double CD you'll need in 2006. You have to ask yourself where HELL finds them. How he digs out such brilliant new bands and raises them into the Gigolo limelight. This is after all the skill of the successful A&R man finding the hottest new acts before anybody else does. And he's certainly done it once again with this the NINTH Gigolo compilation.
So there it is. The sound of the next season. As esteemed label Gigolo rolls ever onwards fast approaching its 200th release, CD Nine is another milestone in its trendsetting catalogue. In addition, International Deejay Gigolos which will soon celebrate its 10th anniversary proving with every release that one can survive the hype and still remain relevant in the every expanding music scene. Gigolo continues to not only supply just what its listening audience want, but to surpass expectations by constantly turning up fresh new artists. This, after all, is HELL's method; always insist on morebetter than the best. Spring is just around the corner, so put the new Gigolo compilation on your stereo, turn it up and dance yourself warm. A double CD to some, a cultural guide to others.
It's a fine slice of minimal electro-funk pop.
