Microstar is not a lofty trance monkey as his name might suggest. Rather, the man who is garnering the attention of King Britt, Ben Watt, and Fred Everything is an artiste with bouyant high-hats; warm, enveloping snyths; and deep, slightly bubbling bass. If you like chill house, shoot for the Star.
Philadelphia’s Playloop Records took one mighty leap across the big pond to discover its first International future star – Germany’s Microstar. Already making waves with DJs including King Britt, Ben Watt and Fred Everything, Microstar now plans on bringing the next wave of hits into your own home. Through a relationship with Playloop Records, Microstar has a 2007 releases schedule jammed solid. Look no further for the future sound of Germany.
A product of the 1970’s first generation computer games, grew up on the sounds and beeps of legendary titles like “Phoenix,” “Defender” and “River Raid.” The sounds emanating from the Commodore 64 PC sparked Microstar’s curiosity in modern music and ultimately the synth based acts of the time; namely Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode.
At age 18, Microstar attended his first techno and house music parties in Hamburg, Berlin and other German cities. The experiences proved to be life changing as it inspired a young Microstar to learn how to DJ and then produce his own records. Today, Microstar DJs at the finest clubs in the world and with some of the biggest names in the business.
A great majority of Microstar’s productions are created at his own home studio. He’s a gear fiend and collects all types of hardware, synths, controllers, master keyboards, mix decks and fx-modules; while his biggest objects of affection are samplers and sequencers. Well schooled in the art of music production, Microstar will put his talent on display with several key singles and a full artist album set for release in 2007 on Playloop Records.
ABOUT PLAYLOOP RECORDS
“Playloop” began as a party promotion company in the early 90s when Justin Paul and Steve Waller booked King Britt, DJ Dozia and other big name DJs to play in Huntington, West Virginia near the Marshall University campus. Because West Virginia is a region of the U.S. known for coal mining and football, Playloop provided the only vehicle for entertaining and educating the crowds with some house music 101. “We were entertaining and educating students and locals to music they couldn't hear on MTV or VH1 and they loved it! We had lines of people around the block in this college town in West Virginia which is 100s of miles away from a major city," Paul says. After a successful run as a promotion company, Playloop became an official record label in June 2006.
Playloop’s Justin Paul is much more than an artist and CEO of Playloop. He is an acclaimed director and producer whose overseen music videos for eclectic artists The Nova Dream Sequence and King Britt Presents Sylk130. The music video Justin Paul directed for King Britt and Sylk130 aired on MTV Tokyo, Much Music Canada and Austrian TV; while his video for The Nova Dream Sequence was used to demo the Motorola iTunes phone at the 2005 Winter Music Conference. Justin Paul also directed the short film Night At The Apollo for the 48 Film Festival which was featured as part of the 2005 Philadelphia Film Festival. Recently Justin Paul & Jake Young directed and created the animated music video for Justin Paul’s track “Data Entry”. You Tube video link for “Data Entry” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7kPHGz1h6s
