Get acquainted with producer Dan Jones and the earthbound, soulful vocalist Ellie Hajee. Performing under the hip-hop-R&B moniker D'Nell, the U.K. duo has been shuffling and bouncing traditional urban beats with a host of global, electronic flavors since the day the couple moved into their studio apartment in 2000. Think Soul II Soul backed up by downtempo organic beats.
D'Nell are producer Dan Jones and singer Ellie Hajee. After meeting in 2000 in a studio, the pair have lived and worked together in west London, cramming a studio into the bedroom of their apartment and a music career into their relationship.
Although producing music in bedrooms is nowadays not uncommon, D'Nell have produced a big sound reminiscent of 70's soul with 90’s Hip Hop attitude. Usually bedroom projects produce more solitary music such as house or techno, from Dan and Ellie’s room come live horn sections, big vocals and old school production techniques.
D’Nell’s first single ‘This Thing’ received lots of attention from Dj’s and listeners worldwide. A further release on ‘Furioustyles’, and they were approached by BBE with the offer of making an Album. The 1st single from their new label home ‘20-20/I’ve Read About’ gained support form BBC Radio 1's Trevor Nelson and Annie Mac, as well as strong recognition UK wide as well as the USA, Japan, Europe and Australia.
1st Magic focuses D’Nell’s interest in fusing rough with smooth. By combining Dan’s grainy production, hip hop beats and obsession with obscure equipment and records with Ellie’s distinct soulful vocal and biographical lyrics, D’Nell have bought us an insight into life in that bedroom whether it’s making beats or making love.
