A classical pianist before she became a teenage-punk-cum-art-school-dropout, Dodo's sound is rooted in all that is strangely electronic. The U.K. producer leans on unusual vocal snippets, spacey but muted synthesizers, and Berlin-inspired beats and bass lines.
Dodo (real name Dodo Kitching) is a solo, multi-instrumental, Theremin playing, composer and artist creating a unique style of downtempo electronica. She learnt classical piano as a child before playing bass in teenage punk bands. Abandoning her art school training after an introduction to Acid House, she gigged with various bands and toured with THE BELOVED. She then joined highly avant-garde synthesiser outfit ELECTRO BIZZARRO and co-hosted nights of 'incredibly strange' electronic music in London's clubland. This experience and a growing collection of retro analogue keyboards inspired the creation of her own blend of Astro cocktail lounge and cosmic space waltz. An electronic exotica hybrid. The debut 12 inch EP "CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE" was well enough received to get her signed to cult Berlin label Crippled Dick Hot Wax (more usually home to reissues like the infamous soundtrack Vampiros Lesbos) - for her debut album THE ANDROID'S DREAM. Fast forward several years and Dodo's song writing has evolved further. Into the original mix have been added weird disembodied voices and alienated robots. Strangely sensuous, pregnant android characters in search of human warmth and compassion. Catch the amazing Metropolis inspired video for Electric Love on YouTube here. The best of her back catalogue is now being released for the first time on UK label Freshly Squeezed Music and a series of new EPs showcase her new material. "Extraordinary... defies classification… one of the most cerebral and filmic things I've heard in ages." DJ Mag "Aural acid candyfloss" MixMag "Retro sci-fi dub electronic exotica from the planet Saturn. Theremins and Moogs circulate in a fecund dub stew of beats and classical loops. Extinction is not an option." NME "The oddly slinky, hypnotic effect of these tunes endures – seductive, warm, textured ambient electronica." Bearded Magazine
