NY's DoZ are what it sounds like to love Bowie in an Animal Collective era. Pinched vocals suggest a lad gone insane or possibly Detroit-based panic, but the template is modernized in a way the Duke would surely dig: complex meters, thin soul melodies, and avant-garde instrumentals.
Dragons of Zynth have already made quite the name for themselves with New York audiences. In the past couple of months, the band has played at David Bowie's Highline Festival, opened for seminal punk band Television at Central Park’s Summerstage, performed at Brooklyn Academy of Musi's 7 day Afro-Punk Festival, and rocked the stage at this summer's CitySol Festival (which also featured the likes of Les Savy Fav, Menomena, O'Death, and more). Not bad for a band who has yet to release an album.
Now Dragons of Zynth are preparing to release that long-awaited debut full-length, which they've dubbed Coronation Thieves. The album will be released on September 25th on Gigantic Records and features production by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, who the band counts as a loyal fan. Non-New Yorkers who didn’t catch the band at this year’s SXSW convention in Austin, Texas can swing by Daytrotter.com to get a glimpse of Dragon’s of Zynth’s self-described “audio-physio-pyschic” compositions.
