The new single from the Canadian rising star, Lil' Wayne collab "Man of the Year," is an outstanding blend of restless Dirty South beats and vintage, soulful instrumentals. It's clubbish but also languorous, and Drake's patient, confident angle on the pop-rap flow feels especially fresh.
Biography
Aubrey "Drake" Graham is a man determined to make it to the top. The twenty one year old Canadian rapper/actor has already accomplished more than many rappers twice his age. Drake has collaborated with a who's-who list of hip-hop artists including Lil' Wayne, The Clipse, Trey Songz, Lupe Fiasco, Rich Boy, Little Brother and Slum Village on his two self-released mixtapes Room for Improvement (2006) and Comeback Season (2007). His new single "MAN OF THE YEAR" featuring LIL' WAYNE is exploding across Canada.
Not only a talented rapper, but also an accomplished actor, Drake currently stars as Jimmy Brooks on the hit television show Degrassi: the Next Generation which airs on CTV (Canadian Television) and MTV - The N. The show is regularly seen in over 40 million homes worldwide and recently won a Teen Choice Award in August 2007. Drake received the Young Artist Award and the Shaw Rocket Award for his work on the show. He has also garnered significant media attention from MTV, The New York Times and HipHopCanada.com.
Drake comes from a diverse cultural and musical background. His father Dennis Graham, an African-Canadian, was the drummer for Jerry Lee Lewis and his uncle Mabon "Teenie" Hodges co-wrote hits and played guitar for the legendary Al Green. Drake spent a lot of time with his father and other musicians including Al, which fostered his passion for music and creative drive. Drake’s mother, a Jewish-Canadian, encouraged her son’s artistic drive while still running a very structured and conservative household.
Drake made history when his music video "Replacement Girl" featuring Trey Songz aired on BET's 106 & Park in the summer of 2007. It was the first video by an unsigned Canadian artist to ever be featured on the show.
