Dub being the branch of reggae with perhaps the most ambitious song construction, it lends itself particularly well to outtake and demo collections. The serious fan will revel in the Syndicate's spacey finished material and their more experimental tangents, both included on the Rasta Far I LP.
Biography
Best Of the Lion & Roots years! CD1 is a 74 minutes Rob Smith (of Smith & Mighty fame) megamix incl. all the hits with vocals by Capleton, Luciano, Junior Reid, Big Youth, Cedric Myton, CD2 is 77 minutes with 12 unreleased versions/mixes; booklet comes with extended linernotes by Bart Plantenga DUB SYNDICATE is probably the most "futuresized" roots dub band since ADRIAN SHERWOOD (Hit Run & On-U Sound) & drummer STYLE SCOTT (ROOTS RADICS) start collaborating in the late 70s.
The pair produced a brace of great albums for On-U, a sort of genre crossover, but with definite reggae roots. STYLE SCOTT always had the vision of rebuilding DUB SYNDICATE as a semi-vocal band.
Ten years ago he started his own label, Lion & Roots, as an independent division in Kingston, Jamaica, producing four albums (Mellow & Colly, Fear Of A Green Planet, Acres Of Space, No Bed Of Roses).
"The Rasta Far I" is the ultimative "Best Of" presenting all the hits from this period in a megamix style by ROB SMITH (of SMITH & MIGHTY) and a collection of outtakes, remixes, demo versions, alternative takes & interview edits, all completely remastered.
The album is a must for any serious Dub Syndicate fan and any Reggae collection it's the perfect tool to bridge the time until the new studio album scheduled for early summer 2007 is released.
