Southern Californians Lawrence Wayte and Scott Babcock, aka Duo-Putty, play a brand of improvisational prog-jazz that's equally indebted to '70s fusion, modern French electronica, and classic piano balladry. Recording live on keyboards and drums, the pair turns minor epiphanies into broad, eloquent soundscapes.
Duo-Putty is Lawrence Wayte and Scott Babcock jamming in the studio on keyboards and drums. It's extemporaneous, improvised music influenced by their background in progressive rock, jazz and classical. There are no preconceptions, run-throughs, or planned events. Their intent is to spontaneously create a cohesive musical landscape while striving to experiment and push the boundaries of their abilities and ideas. Safe playing is discouraged. Scott and Larry have been jamming since high school in Pasadena, CA. After some years of varied career and musical travels they found themselves back where they started, messing around in the music room. This is their first original duo jam collection. Most of the tracks on this CD make use of an arpeggiator to provide an ostinato and framework for exploration. This is the only bit of electronica used. While some of the tracks have a trip-hop flavor, there is no sequencing, looping, overdubs or post-event alterations of any kind other than minimal editing intended to enhance listening pleasure. This im-prog-isational junket should be enjoyed in an open state of mind. Headphones recommended. Buy a can of Duo Putty Super Elastic today; you'll be glad you did!
