dwh (the deeperwiderhigher collective) were formed in 1997, taking many guises as they developed their own style of ruggedlysmoothurbanjazzfunkfusion.
as membership changed so did the style of their music, live performances honed a sound described as ‘music to ease your mind’.
dwh then spent over a year bringing their psalmodic sounds of urbanjazzfunk to sheffield via a sunday afternoon residency at a city café bar .
for those that remember, when they played the place was “gripped and heaving under the weight of quality music” (served up both fresh-live and pre-packed vinyl) – the foremost atomosphere in the city, they also successfully exported their sounds nationally and on a well attended and received tour of dublin.
dwh hit pause on the live deck in april 2001 to press record, heading for mosaic studios (sheffield), to record their debut album ‘follow me’.
over 25 musicians were involved in the three-month project to score, rehearse and record the album which was completed in july 2001.
it was then that dwh hit stop on the deck with time-out needed after such an intense creative time, returning in 2003 to prepare a demo of the album for selected record labels to hear.
