Editor's review

In the late '90s, there was most definitely a French revolution in dance music. Artists like Cassius, Daft Punk, and Dimitri From Paris ruled the dance floors with their chunky, optimistic house. Now the first half of 2007 sees electronic music revolutionized by Parisians once again with the Daft Punk-backed Ed Banger label--hands down the "it" imprint of the moment, its lineup a smattering of various party-rocking styles with at least one common thread--they're beloved by party rockers everywhere.

Biography

The new French invasion is in full swing, with Justice and Ed Banger labelmates DJ Mehdi, Sebastian, and Busy P leading the way for the next generation of genre-breaking, head-banging, disco-dancing electronic music. Widely renowned for their raging parties in Paris and beyond, Ed Banger Records is bringing the entire party crew to North America for a raucous tour presented by PUMA & The Fader that should be nothing less than historic.

Ed Rec Vol. 2, the new label compilation on Ed Banger coming April 10th on Vice Records takes off exponentially where Ed Rec Vol.1 left off.? Featuring a blaze of 13 new tracks exclusive to the compilation, the vast spectrum of individuality on the Ed Banger roster is stressed heavily here; the brash attitude of Uffie's "Dismissed" complements the cool, synthetic future exposed by DJ Mehdi's "Lucky Girl" perfectly. Tracks like Sebastian's harsh "Greel" and Justice's "Phantom" stand on their own without comparison; like the compilation itself, these are benchmarks setting the standard for innovation and creativity in electronic music today.

Founded in 2003 by Pedro Winter (aka Busy P, longtime manager of Daft Punk), Ed Banger Records stands at the forefront of the dance music resurgence. From its inception as an outlet for new French acts spanning genres from hip-hop to thrashing electro and forward thinking dance sounds, Ed Banger has been steadily converting legions of fans internationally to their music, elevating the label's status to cult-like levels.
