Alongside "soundscapist" DJ Trev Thorne, the Raw Intel rhymer looks like an indie hip-hop star in the making. Edreys' flows are acrobatic without being showy, never sacrificing soul for speed, and match ideally with Thorne's deft, polyrhythmic cuts.
First introduced to the scene nationally in 2002 as Eddie Reys from the classic underground group Raw Intel on their award-winning album "Raw Intelligence", Edreys is now
preparing his debut solo album.
On the album "Raw Intelligence" entirely produced by partner Trev Thorne aka "The Sound-Scapist," the duo entered the CMJ charts at #14, peaking at #8, without any promotion,
only a light distribution push from a small company in New York City. Eddie Reys, now known as Edreys, confidently held down the rhyming portion ala CL Smooth to Pete Rock, Guru to Premier, over Trev Thorne's incredible palette of finely chopped samples, loops and knocking drums.
Edreys penned underground classics such as "Get In Line", "Like Smak", "The Best", and "Can't Go Wrong", which are all featured on the ESPN break-through video game for Playstation/ Xbox, ESPN Football 2K5. Edreys also collaborated with the rising star band, SOULIVE (formerly of Concord Records, now releasing on STAX records) on their album entitled "Turn It Out - Remixed" featuring well-known artist such as the Beatnuts, Charli Tuna from Jurassic 5, Wordsworth, DJ Spinna and J-Live.
After many accomplishments, both individually and collectively, ranging from landing tracks on two seperate HBO producutions, "Unscripted" and "Officer Down", production credits on numerous projects (Flagrant) - featured in Source Magazine: Unsigned Hype 2005, Lady Rezult's latest release to which he contributed 7 tracks, as well as video games and mixtapes, Edreys is in the process of crafting an album unquestionably worthy of the classic stamp and approval.
Comfortably handling the bulk of the production but also featuring tracks by producers from New York, Massachusetts and Atlanta, Edreys? album is shaping up to be the most well-rounded urban/hip-hop releases in years. Edreys is to be praised for his unique sound and approach, originality and ability to still be able to relate to a diverse demographic of listeners.
Edreys is no newcomer to the stage, having opened for many major recording artists across the country such as Raekwon (Icon-NY), Slum Village (BB Kings-NY), Pharoahe Monch (Electric Factory-PA), Craig David (Knitting Factory-NY), Soulive (S. O. B.'s. NY), etc. Edreys exhibits absolute confidence and versatility in his ability to perform live with bands, DJ's,solo or with a crew.
Edreys is in his own lane, yet able to appeal to a vast population of music lovers, regardless of class or color. In light of the success of many rappers/producers before him, this producer/writer doesn't plan to reinvent the wheel but to improve on it by "providing yet
another fine alternative and perspective."
