Ethereal, rhythmic and always sexy, Philadelphia's Eltro continues to fine-tune its brand of bouncy drone rock. Building on the hypnotics of Kraftwerk and early Stereolab, this is dance music for the dark and mysterious: a pulsing beat with layers of ambience, sitars, tablas, and sultry, half-sung vocals from lead singer Diana Prescott.
Eltro's long-awaited third album, Past and Present Futurists is an unbelievable, warp ten progression from their first two albums, Information Changer and Velodrome. The album was beautifully recorded by Brian McTear (Bitter Bitter Weeks, Mazarin, Burning Brides) and is the first to feature second vocalist Jenny P.
Eltro has evolved their command of a delicate groove to the realm of the uncanny, channeling irresistible hooks with a gentle yet unrelenting bounce. This is the zenith of the band’s journey to fuse the electronic with the organic, the ocean with the dancefloor.
The lead track from Past and Present Futurists, "Motorboat," features echoes of tablas beating, a looping bass line and uncanny drum beats, striped with sitar and keyboards, all topped with Diana Prescott’s deadpan vocals and the band’s subtle background harmonies. The album comes on an enhanced CD that includes the video for play on a computer.
