NEWS:  We are looking to add a drummer.  We are not concerned with age, appearance, or background.  You need to be able to hold a solid beat, show up for rehearsals, play occasional gigs, and record.  You should be a resident of the greater Tampa area.  It is a plus if you are not in any other band with significant time requirements.  And we would prefer you weren't a heroin addict, crackhead, or raging alchoholic.  Please listen to the songs posted here, and send an email to eumenides@rock.com or better yet call Matt at 813-899-9721 if you are interested.

Eumenides is a rock band from Tampa, comprised of songwriter Matt Sullivan, Kevin Siebel, Gabe Lowenburg, and Joel Brown.

The history of the band is as follows.  Matt started writing songs in 1988 after buying a Billy Bragg record.  Everything he wrote was garbage, but that didn't discourage him.  He continued on as an obscure folk-punk until in 1996 he met Joel while playing a coffee-house in Tampa called "The Penny University".  They talked about starting a band.  And talked.  And talked.   Years later, they jammed together some more, and talked about starting a band.  And talked.

In 2002, Matt decided to record some of the folk-punk songs he had recently written under the name "Stewie's Evil Grin" with veteran Tampa producer Steve Connelly.  Steve convinced him to come back and do a full band recording.  Steve played guitar, some bass, some pedal steel, and enlisted Bryan Thompson from The Sunday Quitters to play drums.  Matt brought in old friend Mary Martin to help with vocals.   Matt was enamored with what they were doing, but wanted to have a 'real' band.  He got back in touch with Joel, who agreed to play drums.  Joel gave an early rough mix of the CD to Kevin Siebel, who said he wanted in, even if he could only play tambourine (but was eventually persuaded to be the principal guitarist).  Kevin and Joel invited their high-school chum Gabe Lowenberg to join on bass, and Eumenides was born.

Eumenides started playing shows in the Tampa area in the summer of 2003.  They opened for Portland's The Decemberists, and shared bills with local favorites Bite Size, The 39 Steps and Beautiful Loser.  The first eponymous CD was well received by the Weekly Planet's Scott Harrell(http://www.weeklyplanet.com/2003-09-18/music_feature.html).  who said "Hunt and haunt this band relentlessly, and expect gargantuan things. Wow".

In the fall of 2003, Eumenides decided to change courses for a little while, focusing on their second recording, tentatively titled "Wise Fool".  Currently, they are searching for a new drummer, to allow Joel to flex his musical genius in other ways, particularly on the keyboard.  They plan on doing more shows in Florida this summer, in support of their new CD.
