To Jason Novak, this is "softcore;" to everyone else, it's still pretty intense. The industrial rocker of Acumen Nation has traded in raw power for dark introspection, but he hasn't pawned a single guitar. The result crosses the dense, deliberate sludge of post-rock with the razor-edge alternative of My Bloody Valentine.
Fawn is the brainchild of Cracknation Records founder JASON NOVAK. Known for his more caustic projects such as the drum n bass team DJ ACUCRACK, or the hardcore industrial band ACUMEN NATION, Novak has quietly fueled the fire of FAWN over the past 4 years.
A lush, melancholy swirl of reverb and feedback, thick guitars and swollen synth washes, FAWN attempts to recall the true heartache and swoon of the original shoe-gazer movement, with heavier production and a darker edge. It is Novak’s opinion that there is a void needing to be filled in this area, a place once ruled by the likes of Slowdive, Ride, The Verve and My Bloody Valentine. Where once walked underground legends of sorrow and reverberation, now only house radio-friendly imitators and a few daring emo bands.
Featuring members of the now posthumous bands Atombombpocketknife and Starstruck, Fawn has recorded their debut album and will begin performing live for the first time in the fall of 2005.
Frozen is the 8 track "EP" that has finally broken out of the gates. While painstakingly finishing a full album, FAWN will release the Frozen EP as a limited edition small run of 300 hand-numbered copies for die-hard supporters waiting for the never-ending production on the full-length to cease. Available only on www.cracknation.com and at live shows.
You may think of it as Jesu crossed with the Cocteau Twins, or Mastodon meets Lush...
We like to call it softcore.
