An unabashed Manhattan whiteboy rapper, FiveFeet drops verbal acrobatics in the Sage Francis school of cocky confessional ("so tough, so meek," the artist says of himself). Feet's engaging lyrics gain added sonic appeal with the spare, underground production of dub-L (Aesop Rock) and the turntable mastery of DJ JS-1 (Rahzel).
FiveFeet:Perspectives is not a typical component of Hip Hop culture. Growing up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in the early 1990's, in a predominantly Caucasian, Jewish environment, Hip Hop was barren. Making every effort possible, FiveFeet:Perspectives became enamored by the influence and authenticity of this budding genre of music.
FiveFeet:Perspectives saturated himself in everything Hip Hop, taking the core elements and personalizing them, always respecting and never sacrificing the purity of the art form.
A soon-to-be lifelong friendship developed between Chase Phoenix (Cut to the Chase, Battle Axe) and Fivefeet:Perspectives. While focused on crafting the art of rhyme writing, Chase Phoenix's progressive-minded style of emceeing influenced FiveFeet:Perspectives greatly. It was through Chase Phoenix that Fivefeet:Perspectives linked up with dub-L (the controls, Ground Original, Aesop Rock) in early 2003. No longer complacent and unsatisfied with the direction the culture was moving in, FiveFeet:Perspectives convinced dub-L to give him the platform to be heard. Hence, the creation of the masterpiece FiveFeet:Perspectives - Iron Heart Lion Eyes.
Iron Heart Lion Eyes is produced in its entirety by dub-L, with all turntable work by the great DJ JS-1 (Ground Original, Rahzel). With guest appearances by Chase Phoenix, Sam Strange and the soulful voice of JC, the album is a journey through the heart, mind and soul of FiveFeet:Perspectives. The fusion of Fivefeet:Perspectives' vision, honesty and rhyme-writing wizardry with dub-L's meticulously crafted production has created a new path for Hip Hop culture.
