Fly.Man.Tell favors food metaphors in describing its music--"a boogaloo stew," says the group--so here are a few more. Those Meters-y, funked-out bass lines? Tasty. That crackling, roots rock-style lead guitar? Southern-fried. And that crisp, swinging drum set packs the punch of a Bourbon street hurricane. No matter, it's all delicious.
Biography
Borne from the roots of American music and conceived in the minds of serious players, Fly.Man.Tell is quickly making an impact on the Chicago music scene.
This original groove jazz band is comprised of members from some of the best touring groups in the Midwest, including World Class Noise and Lou Thunder and the Rainmakers, with experience playing festivals as large as Milwaukee Summerfest and opening for national acts such as Chicago and Los Lobos.
The sound is somewhere between modern jazz, southern funk, and improvisational rock, and tends to move bodies in all directions when the cooking begins.
