Frayed Minds was formed sometime in the beginning of 2003 by three guys from the small city by the sea, Corpus Christi, TX. Since the birth of the band, the inevitable winds of change have resulted in the replacement of some members. Although a hardship at times and a obstacle for momentum, these changes needed to occur so that we could discover our true sound and identity within the ever-changing world of music. The sound that is now Frayed Minds is a contribution of all our musical talents, a combination of the influences of those artists which we admire and the fresh, but familiar sound which is our own. Our sound is something tainted, but not tinted. Something dark and raw but easy to swallow. The band consists of: Chris Garza (guitars & vocals), Jason Sullivan (lead vocals) and Daniel Tienda (bass guitar). In the midst of a predominately punk and metal scene, Chris and I (Jason) set the foundation for something we weren’t quite sure our city was ready for. With the addition of Daniel and the haunting guitar riffs of our alternative/rock origin we have completed our circle and have realized that Corpus Christi had, in actuality, been waiting for us. As the time has passed we have become matured musicians and close friends. Together, we constantly experience the harsh and often cruel side of the struggling musician. At the same time, we understand that the rewards of a growing fan base are priceless. It is this combination of brotherhood and devoted fans that set us aside from most live acts. As our fan base grows, so does the need to share Frayed Minds with the world. During our short run as a band, we have accomplished quite a bit. First of all, our band has played all of the top venues in the Corpus Christi and Victoria area. We have built a strong relationship with the owners of these establishments and are booked on a regular basis. Secondly, we have played for the First Annual Velocity Games in Corpus Christi in the Summer of 2003 as well as returning for the 2004 games. Competitors from over 60 countries around the world are in attendance of this event which can be best described as an equivalent to the X-games with skateboarding, windsurfing, and other scheduled events and contests. ESPN and MTV were sponsors of the event for both years. On three separate Occasions, we have opened for Austin’s #1 band, Vallejo, at Corpus’s popular live music venue, Executive Surf Club. We have also shared the stage with Ultrasonic & Spiders. Also, we are currently featured on a local rock radio station’s website, Rock 107.3. Recently, we were interviewed by the Moody High School newspaper as an up and coming band in South Texas. We are currently finishing our first CD recording and setting our sights on spreading our music to the neighboring cities and radio stations in the form of a small tour. In conclusion, you can say, Frayed Minds is that fresh but all too familiar sound that just won’t go away.
