With an exception of one man named Miles, Freddie Hubbard is the most celebrated jazz trumpeter of our time. Originally recorded in 1962, this reissue of "Here To Stay" remains a post-bop classic for its phenomenal lineup of Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, Reggie Workman, and Philly Joe Jones.
This album was recorded in December 1962, mastered, given a catalog number, and a cover that even appeared on inner sleeves of other Blue Note albums. But for reasons unknown, this recording which Hubbard later proclaimed one of his favorites sat in the can for another 13 years! With the exception of Philly Joe Jones, all of the musicians were members of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers at the time and their empathy matches their considerable skills. If there is a highlight here, it's Hubbard's challenging "Nostrand and Fulton," which everyone pulls off with aplomb. The RVG Series consists of classic blue note albums newly remastered in 24-bit by the original engineer, legendary Rudy Van Gelder, with state-of-the-art equipment. Freddie Hubbard - trumpet, Wayne Shorter - tenor sax, Cedar Walton - piano, Reggie Workman - bass, Philly Joe Jones - drums.
