Biography

Emotive Rock ?n? Roll

The band Fresno, from Porto Alegre, has been rocking for 5 years. This long path was built by the band itself, and it leads towards somewhere they always wanted to be: success. They are the first to get into a musical style that had never been fully explored in the country before. Most of Fresno?s fans got to know the band while surfing on the Web, a way of contacting public and music kind of disregarded until some time ago. The accessibility provided by the Internet is the main reason to explain why the number of fans has been growing at a homogeneous rate among all regions in the country, not only within their home city and state.

Fresno?s musicians are: Lucas Silveira (vocals and guitar), Gustavo Mantovani (guitar), Bruno Teixeira (bass) and Pedro Cupertino (drums).

It started like many other bands did: a bunch of friends from high school who started playing for fun, with no other purpose but self-rejoicing. Thanks to the successful ?partnership? between the Internet and the band?s fans, Fresno could spread their work and soon they became known among the country, and not only by their original public ? their classmates!

Their first album, ?Quarto dos Livros? (2003) (Book Room) was quickly sold out and the second, third and fourth pressings were again completely sold out. The release tour of that album had them perform over 40 concerts in more than 10 states (out of 27).

The band?s second virtual single, released in April, 2004 reached over 100,000 downloads! The anxiously awaited second album ?O Rio, A Cidade, A ?rvore? (2004) (The River, The City, The Tree) had its big opening at one of the largest venues in their home town. In S?o Paulo, they played to a full house, and that caused the disappointment of hundreds of fans, who faced the ?tickets sold out? sign too soon. And the same happened in several other cities they played, such as Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Recife and Uberl?ndia. Something that can?t be forgotten is that Fresno is still an independent band, with no help from any major label itself.

Their work was finally recognized when the label Ant?doto / ACIT released their second album with a better distribution. It is from that record their #1 hit ?Onde Est?? (Where is it?), which videoclip already opened on MTV Brazil. The song put the band among the most acknowledged bands in the local mainstream. It is now one of the top 10 hits in the two most important radios in their state. Their newest single is called ?Orgulho? (Pride).

If Fresno can be now considered common sense in those radios, it is due to the insistent requests made by their street team and the effort of the band itself. The band meets their fans trough both the website www.fresnorock.com.br and the Orkut community ?Fresno?, whit over 25,000 members.

All the sorrow and happiness sung by these guys is inspired in love relationships, the highly flammable fuel of nearly all their songs. The words contain a bittersweet sentimentalism, whereas the music swings as intensely as a troubled first love, going high and low, from calm to storm. They managed to find the most accurate soundtrack to a generation that lives most of their lives surrounded by the distance caused by the digital era, while their feelings are blowing on the inside. Fresno is carrying their public from the virtual to the real world, especially with their shows full of energy and ? why not? ? friendly warmth.
