Editor's review

Mainstream country's preferred bluegrasser, Lauderdale combines neo-folksy vocals shiny enough for Garth or Kenny with pickin' that's frenzied and friendly enough for a Smoky Mountains' back porch. Grammy loves him; Grandpa too. Who are we to find a flaw?

Biography

Bluegrass, one of two brand new albums that Jim Lauderdale released simultaneously in 2006, features the solid pickin' and stark, honest songs that led to 2002's Grammy for Bluegrass Album of the Year for "Lost in the Lonesome Pines". USA Today says when artists "want to get back to their roots, they often turn toward Jim Lauderdale, a singer-songwriter whose talent for lyrical and melodic twists is practically unparalleled in Nashville." These artists have included Ralph Stanley, George Strait and Patty Loveless. No wonder, then, that Bluegrass is nominated for a 2007 Grammy as well. Along with a Grammy, his collaborations have had resulted in plenty of hit songs with artists like George Strait, Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless and Mark Chesnutt. His 1990s recordings for Warner Bros., Atlantic and RCA garnered loads of critical acclaim and a loyal cult following, but working with independent labels has given him the creative freedom to make music that stirs his passions.
