Editor's review

Few contemporary country artists have found equal appeal with mainstream Nashville and traditionalist critics. Lauderdale has bridged the gap with genuinely hickish honky-tonk--packed with slide guitars and weepy violins--that's sung in a can't-miss centrist twang.

Biography

Country Super Hits, Vol. 1, one of two albums that Jim Lauderdale released in 2006, features the perfect country choruses and fierce honky-tonkin' sound that first garnered him a loyal cult following in the 1990s. His recordings for Warner Bros., Atlantic and RCA earned loads of critical acclaim and an enthusiastic fan base, but working with independent labels has given him the creative freedom to make music that stirs his passions. USA Today says when artists "want to get back to their roots, they often turn toward Jim Lauderdale, a singer-songwriter whose talent for lyrical and melodic twists is practically unparalleled in Nashville." These artists have included Dwight Yoakam, Ralph Stanley, George Strait and Patty Loveless, and the collaborations have resulted in hit songs (with artists like George Strait, Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless and Mark Chesnutt) and a Grammy for Bluegrass Album of the Year (2002's "Lost in the Lonesome Pines").
