Following the footsteps of Fela Kuti, instrumental seven-piece group FuNk HaPoALiM blends Afro-Cuban beats with '70s funk rhythms and traditional Cuban jazz elements. This live Israeli ensemble preserves an upbeat optimism, making for a real joyride.

Biography

the 7-piece instrumental funk group includes some of the finest new generation jazz musicians in Israel, and has been active since 2002. The group plays both original music and new arrangements for well known funk tunes. The group’s style combines elements of several musical genres, including funk, jazz, reggae, afro-beat, latin, hip-hop, and world music all played in the group’s unique sound. The group maintained the magnificent tradition of artists such as James Brown, Maceo Parker, Fela Kuti, Jimmy Smith and Bob Marley, and combines it with update modern music such as hip-hop and soul music . Up until now, the group has played in jazz and world music festivals in Israel, and giged in many clubs around tel-aviv. In addition, the group has organized underground weekly street parties, which became very popular in the tel-aviv area, and were also covered by national newspapers.
