In a world where indie music has compartmentalized itself to death, Ghetto Pony works like a glaze, coating all genres in a syrupy gloss of confusion. They are the live band equivalent of a Radio Soulwax mash up--willing and able to electronically layer a clunky, obscure '80s jam on top of a cutting-edge German electro beat. Call their music "post-modern pop" since it defies genres and blends styles into a single, cohesive sound.
GHETTO PONY's music is a combination of the cheap thrills of danger and the smooth flava of love, radiating broken beauty through organized chaos. A dynamic three piece, not like every other, GHETTO PONY fuses laptop performance with a live band.
GHETTO PONY is three high school friends from Guelph, Ontario who formed after graduating in 2001. With their unique live set-up, the G.P.'s stay true to their nonconforming vision of what a band can be. As Peter sings playing keyboards or guitar, David provides the lows using a stand-up, or electric bass, while J.J. pumps out the beats using a laptop and spins records. The G.P.'s often trade instruments from song to song, keeping their music diverse and their live performances interesting till the end. After serving one year in Guelph's eclectic music scene GHETTO PONY relocated to Montreal where the they have independently released Shouting Squirrels, Leaping Lizards a four song LP. Amongst promoting their music with local shows, GHETTO PONY is also putting together their first EP, Post Apocalyptic Bubble Gum Music.
