Editor's review

That which postrock is (glistening guitars and pouty basslines) meets that which postrock isn't (heart-on-sleeve emotions) in Ghostwood's work. The resulting dark, brooding anthems can recall "Boy"-era U2, with tinges of '80s college rock acts like the Replacements.

Biography

On a crisp winters morning in 2006 the mystical spirit that is Ghostwood was born. In a high school rec room somewhere in Sydney, the vision of 3 minds met at point where time stood still and they were afforded a moment of sublime transcendental clarity and their future was decided upon. From now on Gab Navidzadeh, Paddy Harrowsmith and Tom Crandles were Ghostwood, a melancholic trip of a guitar band. Starting off recording demos with a basic drum machine, once joined by James West the band was a complete and set upon endless nights of timewarp jamming and lost forays into the world of the wii.

After playing shows with the likes of Klaxons, The Valentinos, Howling Bells, Van She, Mercy and Damn Arms, a 5 track self-titled EP was created. The EP takes in 5 very distinct tones, from Red Version?s unresolved optimism, Blue Version?s ominous sparseness, Ghost?s beautifully sweeping simplicity, Run?s angst to Pencils? relief and longing, the Ghostwood EP recalls moments here and there of My Bloody Valentine, early U2, Factory Records and grunge and alludes to an epic grandeur not far away?..
