If the woolly mammoth of yore strapped on a Les Paul before sinking into the tar pits, it could have joined Gonga. Emerging from Bristol, U.K. through a thick fog of dope smoke, Gonga produces rumbling, low-end riffs with a boogie beat reminiscent of Canned Heat after huffing too much glue. One gets the impression a Gonga practice session lasts not hours but for months at a time.
Gonga are from round and about the west of England, and are now based in Bristol. They are fans of a wide range of music, the common thread being depth. They translate their love of music into heavy rock played with passion and a desire to have both an aural and physical effect on the listener. The outcome is something like Melvins jamming with ZZ Top and Grand Funk Railroad - pounding blues rock, and sometimes doom.
Described by Thrasher as 'Iommi playing guitar for Zeppelin' and Wire as 'forging a mighty thump with forthright and non-ironic charm', Gonga pay their dues whilst looking to the future. Like the people that make it, their music is honest and true, and that is never less than refreshing. Check it out, it speaks for itself ...
