He lives where the songwriters live: Austin. He looks like the songwriters look: brooding in a jean jacket and bangs. And his soft vocals are cut from the Nick Drake mold. So why is Grant Olney trying to sing like Robert Smith? Who knows, but a little Cure-style grandiosity proves strangely alluring in Olney's silky indie-pop tunes.
Biography
From Austin, Tx, Grant draws influences from his life in the city calling in his lyrical vision. Political in many ways, deeply personal in all forms, yet the music is universally appealing and painstakenly honest. Grant Olney draws from influences all over the musical spectrum: Gospel, jazz, rock, indie, harkening such artists as Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, The Smiths, The Style Council, and the Cure.
