Greenwood's inventive and unconventional style has won over audiences
from major music festivals to intimate venues alike. This five piece
band approaches music from a unique perspective formed from eclectic
musical backgrounds while offering thought provoking lyrics and
innovative instrumentation.
Few bands have truly incorporated the sound of a violin into their
music. Greenwood does so without making it the show piece of the
group. While Greenwood sounds most like? Greenwood, a few other bands
have similarities: the range of emotion expressed by Death Cab for
Cutie, the stage presence of Lovedrug, the instrumentation of Cursive,
and the progressive experimentation of Broken Social Scene. At some
point during 2003, the members of Greenwood: Art, Allan, Noel, Tyler,
and Jesse decided that they wanted to play music that was very
different from anything they had heard-music that was from their hearts
and expressed their own passions. All five members are Christians, but
wished to redefine the stereotypes which follow those who believe in
God and the music they play.
The band?s hard work and talents have not gone unnoticed. They have
played with successful independent bands such as Anathallo, Saxon
Shore, and Colour Revolt, while also playing with mainstream bands
including Plain White T?s, Day of Fire, and many others on festival
stages. In 2004, they won third place out of over eighty bands
competing in a hard rock Battle of Bands, displaying their ability to
impress while playing in a competition outside of their genre. Word
spread rapidly in 2005 as Greenwood moved to Baltimore, Maryland and
away from the small college town in Tennessee where they met at Union
University. Greenwood is in the midst of organizing several tours on and
around the East Coast.
