As the house band at Austin's Armadillo World Headquarters in the '60s and '70s, this collective opened bills featuring everyone from Zappa to the Boss. Such wide-ranging acts require a versatile troupe, and the recently reformed nonet of Wheels is nothing if not that, sporting a brassy, homegrown blend of Latin sass, country grit, blues spirit, and jazz touch.
Greezy Wheels was the house band at the fabled Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas in the late '60s and '70s. Along the way they opened for just about anyone of that era you can think of, from Frank Zappa to Bruce Springsteen on his fist nationwide tour. They were also the first Austin band to sign to a major label when they inked a deal with London Records. 25 years later, songwriter and leader Cleve Hattersley refomed the band with original members Mary Hattersley, noted violinist and fiddler, and his sister Lissa, who handles most of the lead vocal chores. The rest of the band is made up of noted Austin musicians from the country, reggae, blues, rock and jazz scenes in Austin, and the resulting sound is utterly unique - organic, eclectic, and Greezy.
