Biography

Guinea C plays traditional songs from Guinea, West Africa, in a contemporary style. The band was formed in 2004. The group plays in the hotels and bars in the tourist area in The Gambia. Hotel and Restaurant Bakadaji is their home base. In the garden of this hotel they also rehearse their new songs. All members of the band were born or raised in Guinea, West Africa. They call their country Guinea Conakry, to distinguish it from its neighbor Guinea Bissau. To honor their homeland they named the band Guinea C. They also painted their instruments in the color of the Guinean flag: red, yellow and green. After playing in several groups in various West African countries, they all came to The Gambia. This country has a blooming tourist industry and the holiday makers appreciate live music. On January 1st 2007 the members of the band sat together, talking about the future. They decided that making a cd should be their top priority. Setting aside whatever they could miss, they then approached their tourist friends and the manager of hotel Bakadaji. With their help the first cd was recorded by Wole Rendall at the AFG studio in Serrekunda. The cd is called Bakadaji as a tribute to the hotel owner and the manager, who helped them in many ways.
