Contemporary twist on classic blues

15-Aug-2006 02:21:46 PM
Reviewer: AuntieJalapeno

GB is blessed by excellent production and talented backing musicians. Typically, bluemen are not perfectionists, and the music itself generally belies celebration in loss, imperfections, human frailty and any other tale of woe that words can be formed to describe. GB has the blues, but he is a perfectionist. The result is a staggering wall of sound that will knock the beer out of your hand and give you something to cry about. The backbeat has just enough urgency to sound like it was stolen from a dying man's chest, while the guitar, bass and drum work together seamlessly to tattle a tale with a snearing grin. Classic R&B influence keeps the technical aspect simple. BG's music is stronger than his lyrical delivery, but the mix is enough to keep the sensible listener dialed in for keeps. Excellent music to listen to while eating hot buffalo wings and cold Miller beer.
