Editor's review

Promising talent Havana is a Southern California singer with an East Coast vibe. Her style reflects an amalgamation of influences ranging from Billie Holiday to Amel Larrieux. She's currently working on her debut album, which will feature production by Waajeed from the Platinum Pied Pipers and The Foreign Exchange's Nicolay.

Biography

Havana's voice sings a song of optimism and evolution. She speaks of sharing her light with the world. There's a bountiful, spiritual vibe in both her voice and lyrics. Her harmonies blend seamlessly with the production of Nicolay of Foreign Exchange fame. The B-Side "Tangled," has a very Detroit-esque electric soul mellow groove. Tastemakers in London, Tokyo and Philadelphia will undoubtedly be spinning this 12" for the neo-soul, down tempo mood.

Havana describes her sound as future soul, the fusion of soul, jazz and hip hop rhythms. With musical influences ranging from Billie Holiday and Pat Benatar to modern day artists like Amel Larrieux, Havana embraces music as a changing force in her life. Havana is a diverse artist who captures audiences with her refreshing sound and style. For this reason fans worldwide are anxiously anticipating the album release.

Raised by her Grandmother in a Southern California gang neighborhood, Havana, used music to zone out the violence she faced on a daily basis. She began to sing at church, talent shows and often record in local studios to expand her talents. After being offered scholarship for classical vocal training, Havana studied opera and performed in various plays before finding her true niche; singing beautiful and melodic verses over soulful, rhythmic backdrops.

The debut album, LIFE, deals with living, love and pain; situations we all relate too, while also touching on issues surrounding her difficult upbringing. Written and arranged by Havana, LIFE features production from up and coming producers Nicolay (Foreign Exchange), Waajeed (Platinum Pied Pipers) and others. On her inspirational title track, Havana sings, "Life keeps passing by, don't blink or close your eyes, don't sleep on today, cause tomorrows not guaranteed". Havana has a story and she wants the world to hear it.
