Editor's review

You might think Heavy Mojo's self-description is a joke--a mash of Maroon 5, the Beastie Boys, and Zep?--but if you've heard Gnarls Barkley, you'll at least know this could be pulled off. And quite solidly, it turns out: playful, razor-sharp beats underpin a soul-pop core.

Biography

Heavy Mojo is a six-piece genre-bending hip hop and rock outfit from Atlanta, Georgia. Their sound effortlessly combines mainstream melodies (Gym Class Heroes, Maroon 5) with urban beats (Beastie Boys, The Roots) and classic guitar riffs (Led Zeppelin, Linkin Park) that is fused together with 70's soul (Sly and the Family Stone). The group is fronted by three MC's and backed by a powerful band on guitar, keys/bass and drums.
