The Nevada City, Calif., scene is full of starry-eyed indie folk acts--the sorts apt to list gold prospecting and basketweaving as backup professions. The Hospital Kids give the slip to such local earnestness, sticking to those standbys of a properly alienated rock: driving drums and lean, mean riffs.
