Editor's review

When people complain about alt-country, they're wishing it would sound more like this. Gravelly vocals suggest Springsteen on a more rural weaning, while pedal steel and juicy electric guitar do a country-rock scuffle, the winner up in the air. It's a timeless construction, and it doesn't leak.

Biography

Formed in 1999 by Rob Waller and brothers Paul and Anthony Lacques during a philosophical discussion/rock throwing session on an East Mojave desert trek, I See Hawks In L.A. has earned critical and popular acclaim for their signature high lonesome three part harmonies, twang guitar and unadorned acoustic arrangements, with lyrics musing on mortality, whales, and the geography of pre-apocalyptic L.A. More than eight years on, it seems hard to imagine how this maturing band can continue to push its own boundaries, but on Hallowed Ground they manage to do so (and then some)! Recorded at drummer Shawn Nourse's studio and Paul Lacques' Echo Park flat & mixed by Ethan Allen, Hallowed Ground returns to poetically expressed eco/end times themes, but with surprising forays into Celtic music, Tex Mex, and even moments of 70?s soul.
