Editor's review

Despite spaced-out, hop-skip beats and a name that can't help but recall IDM, this is hardly your older sister's late-'90s trip-hop. Whereas the Portishead contingent flits in the low-middle register, ISM gets a charge from deep industrial sludge and tenor shriekage worthy of a hair rocker.

Biography

On August 5, 2008, STM Records' flagship artist, ism, will be releasing their new album titled Urgency. Urgency, ism's sophomore album on STM Records, poses unflinching questions about the human condition in songs equally as bold in construction. Smart, melodic and hypnotic, the 12 tracks produced by Joe Blaney (The Clash, Tom Waits, Prince) on Urgency builds on the solid foundation of 2006's critically acclaimed Monkey Underneath. Andre Mistier, lead singer and songwriter for the New York-based quartet is joined by Mike Higgins on drums, fret master Gerard Toriello on lead guitar, and effects wizard Leigh Battle on bass. Behind the scenes, legendary A&R guru Michael Caplan served as patriarch of the project, assembling an impressive production team that shaped the final recording. Not only was Joe Blaney brought to the table, but the album was mixed by Mark Needham (the Killers, Hot Fuss), mastered by Vlado Meller at Universal Mastering Studios and a guest appearance by legendary Bernie Worrell, playing organ, clavinet and synthesizer on several tracks. The first single for the album is “Sacred Cows” and its add/impact date for radio is June 10, 2008. The album is being distributed nationwide by RED Distribution.
