He's accomplished enough to have sidelined national acts, but this blues-rock guitarist isn't above jamming trainside in the N.Y.C. subway. And that's to the benefit of straphangers citywide. Green's rollicking riffs twang up impressive blues scalework with just the right dose of country.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Jason Green has played jazz and blues guitar since the age of 15. Performing and touring for nearly ten years with several different bands, including blues legend Big Jack Johnson and the Oilers, Green appeared at venues across the United States and in Canada, Japan, and Australia before making the move to New York City. While he initially experimented with playing in the subway to earn some extra cash, he soon took to the underground venue, finding that, in addition to being profitable, it offered him the chance to make contacts and play to an audience beyond those who seek his music out at traditional venues. ?In the subway,? he reflects, ?you can try out different things?it?s more open to do whatever you want to do. And you play to different types of people than at clubs or restaurants; you get young people, old people, all kinds.?
