While treading the difficult terrain inhabited by such artists as Bjork and iiO, Jes' velvety vocal artistry envelops you in a blanket of narcotic wistfulness; soothing, hypnotic, and pleading. Instead of putting the track before the horse, Jes uses the familiar solace of a 4/4 beat structure to paint her electronic palette with breathy and enticing emotive watercolors.
JES; Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Artist. DISCONNECT, the debut solo album. One could call it a debut, but in reality it is a logical progression for her. Born and raised in New York City, Jes realized at a young age that singing was her passion. While enrolled in Art School, her truly unique vocal style, and range was discovered, and she quickly progressed toworking in professional situations. All the while she continued to write and work in friends studios, always making music. With school out of the way, while on a trek to Los Angeles, Jes put these vocals to use, when she penned, and performed the song "Star Children" with her then group Guardians of the Earth. That track appeared alongside U2, iio, and many others on the highly acclaimed Politics Of Dancing compilation that was mixed and produced by none other that Paul van Dyk.
Soon after, while performing at a show in Los Angeles, she crossed paths with DJ duo Gabriel & Dresden. Together they formed Motorcycle, and their debut single "As The Rush Comes" has sold in excess of 3 million copies around the world and won 2 Billboard Dance Awards in 2004; Best Dance Track & Best New Dance Artist. In addition to having already snagged the IDMA award for best progressive track in 2003. "As The Rush Comes" has been featured on CSI; Everwood, MTV (Room Raiders, MTV Cribs), and used extensively on the E! Channel. It has topped the radio and dance charts in many countries around the world and even landed her a spot on London’s "Top Of The Pops" TV show. While "As The Rush Comes" allowed Jes to have her music heard by countless people around the world, and lead her to perform in places as exquisite as NEC Arena (Birmingham), P&C Art Centre (NJ), Jones Beach, Miami Arena, Bacardi Festival (Lebanon), Fresh (Malta), World Electronic Music Festival (Toronto), Escape In The Park(Wales), (Moscow), LA Sports Arena, and Red Rocks (Denver). During this time there is still more Jes wanted to do, so she began work on her solo record Disconnect, along with producers Steve Sidelnyk and Sean Spuehler (Madonna, Richard Ashcroft, Massive Attack).
By doing her own record it has allowed her to explore a broad range of her musical influences (Radiohead, The Clash, Mary J. Blige, Bjork, Annie Lennox) while always crafting arrangements that let her voice really shine through. Jes has sought to produce the songs she was writing, add her own piano and guitar to them, and continue the work of art that she has been developing for years. The sound being produced is unique; it combines elements of groove from her Electronica hits, with an edgy Rock sound from her previous bands. It rings true in all of the songs on Disconnect, and is sound that can be summed up in a single word; Roctronica. Disconnect will be released in early 2007. In the meantime, Jes is not sitting still. "Like A Waterfall" (a collaboration with Solarstone) appears on Tiësto’s In Search Of Sunrise 4, and Jes will beappearing along side him on select dates during his 2005 World Arena Tour. At the same time "Ghost" (a collaboration with Deep Sky) has been signed worldwide to Release Records.
A new Star is on the horizon, and the Universe will change forever.
