FROM the pulsing African rhythms of Hana to the gentle but wry social observations of the title track Shine, Joni Mitchell again charts fresh new musical territory.
Mitchell is unstinting in her generosity - presenting ten superb songs from her new release.
She describes the album as "serious a work as I've ever done."
I agree.
This is Joni at the height of her creative powers - as a singer, poet and contemporary artist.
Forget the folk tag.
Mitchell enters the realm of jazz, serious ballads and exotic ethnic sounds.
Yes,her iconic hit Big Yellow Taxi is included, but reworked to give the song modern relevance.
Among my picks:Hana, Shine, the deeply personal If I Had a Heart and If, and the sharply satiric Strong and Wrong.

The girl was pretty. . . But she ain`t got no doe. . . The guy was busy but he` too heavy. . . Nobody no nothin` `bout spending money. . . The ice cream Lady`s cool but she`s not going nowhere. . . Pump the gas here comes a real hard *****. . .
