Editor's review

Tommy Knocker and DJ Jon 'love' Jon, collectively known as Junior Cartel, craft a sound made from soulful drum 'n' bass vibes and uplifting vocals, knocking out a rhythm that just can't help but make you move. Add a heavyweight bass line and an R&B swing, and you've got yourself a melody that flows as sweetly as warm honey.

Biography

JUNIOR CARTEL are a production duo consisting of dj/producer Tommy Knocker (real name Tom Smethurst) from Intercom recordings and long time DJ partner DJ Jon 'love' Jon (real name Jon Lewis).

Both hail from Guildford in Surrey and have known each other for many years now and have been dj’ing together for probably just as many.

Tommy has been a musician since he left school, a fully trained bass player with many qualifications in music including jazz and popular music. Tommy started producing dance music for commercial release since about ‘95 with house tracks coming out on many underground labels building up to a massive Ibiza anthem "Want Love" with "Hysteric Ego" coming out on Warner Music in ‘96 and going top 20 in the charts.

After this period he began to get more involved in breakbeat music and started to produce d&b with a more musical edge, this led to many releases on such labels as Beeswax, Ultra Violet, Moving Shadow and now Intercom. This year has seen some big releases in the form of "People All Around",  "All for Love", "Brazil is Back", and "Stand Up" all being smashed by the scenes’ leading dj’s.

Jon Love Jon is one of Guildfords best kept secrets, his dj’ing skills have been in use since the early days of acid house to present day with dates all over Europe and the UK. Starting off as resident dj at Guildfords infamous WOK club playing an electic mixture of tunes which in any one set he could switch from The Prodigy to Rolling Stones to The Orb. Later on the the big beat and the breaks scene had arrived but this was no suprise to all in Guildford as party boy Love Jon had been doing that sound for years. His sets are still just as varied as people at this years festivals would have seen.

The JUNIOR CARTEL boys have a fine blend with Tommy bringing his production skills and d&b vibes with Love Jon bringing the sounds and dancefloor reaction.
