Make room, Dizzee Rascal--there's a new, IDM-infatuated U.K. rapper in town. London's Justaman is charting his own path and relying on a map made of fractured beats, classical string samples, and ominous trip-hop atmospherics.
Justaman's earliest influences included The Doors, Jimi Hendrix & Guns n Roses as well as acts such as Massive Attack & Tricky. Shortly after being introduced to hip-hop and purchasing decks, the beat making began. Growing tired of the commercialised face of hip-hop, Justaman sought to create an experimental edge to a sound including close work with electric bass player, Harry Styles. Producer, Meno One teamed up with Justaman for two grueling years work resulting in a demo release "Mistake #1". It featured the vocal talents of Noor, Intellect, Trutec & Skeptic. The collaboration went under the name "Greed". The internet provided a platform accepting of new ideas, and Justaman continues to promote his music through in this way. 2004 saw live act "The Drop" seeking a new MC, and bassist Harry Styles recruited Justaman. Having focused his efforts on beat-making, and with a patchy rhyme book and no previous stage experience, Justaman was forced to learn quickly under The Drop's hectic schedule. Touring continued through 2005 & 2006 with Bockscar, a rap-rock hybrid well received for their high energy. Currently living in the studio, and forming collaborative parterships with artists such as Sik Mik, Justaman is set to release an album in the very near future. Yimino also recently teamed up with Justaman and a release is expected very soon.
