Editor's review

With the kind of artful determination of a band like Radiohead, without all the esoteric sidetracks, Denmark's Karthage pound out earnest, high-minded rock and sound like a beefier, more palatable Pearl Jam in the process.

Biography

coalition of ambitions, ability and lack of responsibility; the music takes its roots in the aesthetics, the emotion - roots in periphery of the heart and later in the left heart chamber.
karthage is a band of esbjerg rapidly evolving; the seeds were sown in the summer of 2oo1, where after the band lost its ”virginity” in september at de studerendes hus. after a total of about 2o concerts at tobakken, ungdomshuset and other local venues, and a substitution on the tangents during the following summer, the band reformed with the new pianist anders beier:
post grunge went alternative indie: an experimenting style with a sense of bigotry and a tendency for the melodic. fragile but penetrating guitar elements, from weary to numbing, paralysing drums and bass riffs – all colliding in compact, edge cutting panoramas, leaving the audience unable to avoid impact.
to feel is the keyword - in the hope of a more considerate, intense and fuller experience for both the listener and the band as well. in other words it’s all about art – and in the long term of international character; likewise the role models: radiohead, blur, muse, mew and sigur ros…
during the substitution on the tangents (2oo2) the band played at the annual nakke festival, from where the recordings will be plotted in as bonus tracks somewhere, and in their winter’s vacation the band started the recordings for their forthcoming EP:“anti-social headphone” is due to the 6th of june.
in the meantime of all this the “invasion” of particularly copenhagen has been launched throughout the coalition with newly founded musikministeriet – managed by racetrack babies with whom the band played at ungdomshuset, esbjerg in december 2oo2.
karthage is for the idealistic listener, who wants aesthetics, sincerity, visions and originality; In summary, the listener who takes distance from the pompous, mainstream showbiz with all it’s cliché’s and trivial love hymns on track. It’s for the listener who appreciates music, and the art of it – not the entertainment.
music as an art: estithic ethics and logic à traditional poetry transformed to poetics in sound - in the attempt to transcendent; in reality BECOME poetry.
