With a tender, wispy voice suggesting the Sundays or Devendra Banhart's kid sister, as well as a knack for sweetly out-of-tune guitar play, Toronto's Burns is all set to claim her rightful place in the lo-fi pantheon. Her debut full length is slated for a spring '06 release; expect to find her opening Bonnie Prince bills soon thereafter.
Kat Burns was raised in the sleepy suburb of Whitby, Ontario. At a young age she realised that there had to be more than what was laid out in front of her.
Always interested in the arts and music, she used her interest as a vessel to take her away from the confines of the town. After a year out of the country, kat returned to Canada and found herself moving to Toronto to attend art school and broaden her horizons.
Soon after her arrival she began to wade knee-deep in the local music scene, absorbing and retaining as much as she could. Starting out small, but working her way up, kat managed to maintain an audience that kept growing with every show.
In June 2004 she began recording in various bedrooms and with various friends. And finally, in May 2005, for the birds cd-EP was released. This six song introduction was received well from campus radio stations and local press. But this is just a warm up for kat. She plans on recording a full length this winter, for a spring 2006 release.
