Hyphy is often characterized by a beat so crisp and implosive it borders on sterile. Kyzah, a member of hot trio the Team, keeps that beat's torque but enriches it with a more thick, organic feel. The results are remarkable: a sound any Oaklander could spot, but with twice the fire in its belly.
With two highly successful independent full-length group albums, numerous hit singles, a solo mixtape getting over 20,000 downloads, and an energy drink selling out in stores everywhere, Kaz Kyzah, one-third of the Bay Area-based rap super group, The TEAM, is now ready to take the hip hop world by storm.
Growing up in different parts of Oakland, California, Kyzah learned at a young age that he had a hustler's spirit. After trouble with the law as a youngster, Kaz changed his focus to learning how to rap and making quality songs. He lists his broad range of musical influences from Thelonius Monk and Cold Play to A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep and Too $hort, not something you'd expect from someone with a true rapper's past.
Sometimes overcoming obstacles in our lives could be the true test of a man?s character. Serving time in prison was a blessing in disguise for Kyzah. All the while, he heard from family members that his cousins, Clyde Carson and Mayne Mannish, had formed a rap group called The TEAM. Kyzah then decided to join the group and I guess you can say the rest is history.
After Kaz's release from prison, The TEAM came out with their first mixtape, "Beyond the Glory." The streets were now abuzz with "Team Music". Local radio stations such as KMEL and KYLD caught wind of their sound and their first single, "Everybody In The Club," was immediately put into regular rotation. With commercial radio play, The Team's fan base quickly grew, especially with the evolution of the Hyphy movement. With The TEAM, Kaz Kyzah was again on his hustle. Hitting the airways with the follow-up single, "Rock That," The TEAM's popularity gained momentum on the streets and in Bay Area nightclubs.
Hit after hit was released including "It's Getting Hot", the lead off single from The Team's first full-length album "Negro League". The single solidified The TEAM as a force to be reckoned with, not only in the Bay Area, but nationwide, with numerous spins on radio stations throughout the country.
In 2006, two years after the release of "Negro League", the threesome dropped "World Premiere" which featured a mix of previous hit songs such as "It's Getting Hot," and "On One," with new smash singles, "Hyphy Juice," "Bottles Up," and "Just Go."
After the success of "World Premiere's" first single, "Hyphy Juice" (and later the "Hyphy Juice Remix") Kaz Kyzah with the other members of The TEAM ventured into another business opportunity, the energy drink business. They released a "grapple" (a combination of grape and apple) flavored energy drink called nothing other than, "Hyphy Juice," which coincided with the release of the album.
Since The TEAM's debut, Kyzah has been featured in numerous print publications such as Fader, The East Bay Guardian, Murder Dog, Explosive and The Express. He has also been seen on TV shows such as Hip Hop University, Distortion 2 Static (D2S) and numerous DVD's.
In 2006, following The TEAM's success, Kaz Kyzah released his first solo mixtape "The Go-Fessional," which passed over 20,000 downloads and included the infectious single, "I Go." He also had street hits such as "I Need A Beat," and the "Stunna Shades Remix." His new mixtape "No Money, No Problems" and debut solo album "Kyzah Kollection" is scheduled to drop in 2007 and already features the explosive street anthem, "M.O.N.E.Y.," with cameos from Dem Hoodstarz and San Quinn. It doesn't stop there; Kyzah, with other members of The TEAM, plans on putting out a clothing line, a new flavor of Hyphy Juice, and is involved with many other business ventures, such as Mogul Media Group, where he plans on expanding his portfolio. He is also involved with members of the community and has hosted and performed at various charitable events throughout the Bay Area.
Kaz Kyzah's entrepreneurial hustler's spirit, life experiences, work ethic, slick street vernacular and Oakland swagger have propelled him into a position that his troubled past might not have let him reach. Overcoming many trials and tribulations throughout his life, he has persevered to become one of the top up-and-coming rappers not only in the Bay Area, but the entire hip hop nation. In "Bay Area" slang, this hustler "gos."
